Cats In The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

1927. Felix the Cat

Cynthia:  Cats have a long history in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. In 1927 Felix the Cat was the very first balloon character to fly in the parade.

Cynthia:  Other notable cat balloons over the years were our favorite lasagna loving ginger cat, Garfield.

2009, Garfield

Cynthia:  The lovely and quirky, Hello Kitty.

Hello Kitty

Cynthia:  And Mr. Bad Cat himself – The Cat In The Hat. In fact, he is so bad he ran into a light post in 1997 and injured three people.

1997, The Cat In The Hat

Marcy:  Gasp! He’s so bad!

Cynthia:  So what do you think, Marcy? Will there be a giant Marcy Balloon lording it over New York City one day?

Marcy (solemnly):  That is my hope and dream.

Cheers and big slurpy kitty kisses!

So cool! Oh! I remember Felix the cat. He was my favorite. And, of course, Hello Kitty is my daughter's. I remember that Cat in the Hat float. So sad. My husband loves the parade. I have not watched it since I was little. A big Marcy balloon is exactly what is needed! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! : )

The good news is that all three injured people from the Cat in the Hat balloon recovered from their injuries. My Thanksgiving was really nice! Hope yours was too!!

I hope you and yours have a great Thanksgiving! When I was little, we had one of those Felix the Cat cuckoo clocks when his eyes move to the left and right and his tail swings back and forth – scared the crap out of wee me!

Oh no! I can see how that would be scary to a little kid – especially with those eyes following you around. I had a nice Thanksgiving! Thank you! Looks like you had a wonderful time in NYC!
