Was The Most Interesting Dress At The SAG Awards Really A Dress? Or A Disaster?

Emma Stone SAG Awards 2015

5pm. Sunday. January 25th, 2015.

Marcy and Cynthia are watching the Screen Actors Guild Awards on TV.

They stare at Emma Stone’s Dior Couture dress blazer outfit.

They are utterly confused.

Marcy:  Do you like it?

Cynthia:  I don’t know. Do you?

Marcy:  It’s a basic black blazer with some sheer black mesh attached to the hem.

Cynthia:  It’s Dior Couture.

Marcy:  So. It’s still a basic black blazer with some sheer black mesh attached to the hem. Still… there’s something about it…

Cynthia:  So what was your favorite dress of the night?

Marcy:  Tatiana Maslany’s Oscar de la Renta gown.

Tatiana Maslany SAG Awards 2015

Cynthia:  A black and white concoction? That’s so predictable of you. Mine was Emmy Rossum’s Armani Prive gown.

Marcy:  A silverly glittery disco ball dress? That’s so predictable of you.

They go back to staring at Emma Stone’s dress blazer outfit.

Cynthia:  I think we need help from our readers on this one.

Marcy:  Yeah.

Marcy and Cynthia:  So Awesome Readers – what do you think?

Is Emma Stone’s dress blazer outfit…

A Hit or a Miss?

A Dream or a Disaster?

Super Cool or Super Criminal?

Fabulous Fashion? Or a Fashion Faux Paw?

Please help us.

xo and meow,
marcy + cynthia

I do think it's a disaster… i don't know which part is worse, the mesh on the neckline or the bottom half of the skirt! I like both yours and Marcy's choices though 🙂

The mesh is very cheap looking which I find surprising since it's a Dior. This picture actually makes the outfit look better than it did on TV. The thing is – I am still intrigued by it. Maybe because she wears it so confidently that it seems kind of cool. I don't think anybody else could have pulled it off.

Not a fan. It just looks to me like something is missing…

I agree with you, Cynthia… I like Emmy Rossum's dress.

(And, just had to mention that Tatiana Maslany is Canadian.)

Ah ha! I just found that out last night. If I had to chose a dress to wear that night it would be hers. Love the stripes.
When Emmy Rossum walked out on stage her dress lit up from the lights bouncing off of it. It was so magical.

I actually don't mind Emma's dress. It's not something I would want to wear but it is interesting and I've definitely seen worse. However, I believe my sister has described me as a fashion disaster so I'm not sure I'm qualified to comment. I do like Emmy's dress!

Are you sure that wasn't Marcy calling you a fashion disaster? Surely I am not that mean. Wait. What are you wearing right now?

I like that Emma's style is turning more minimalist and tom-boyish (reminds me of Emma Watson actually). I don't love love love that dress but I've certainly seen worse! I liked Rosamund Pike's look the best, for hi-lo it was done well and very chic.

      Hi Chanel!

Yes – I too love that she has evolved into a more tomboyish and minimalist style. It really suits her and makes it so interesting.
I really liked Rosamund Pike's look too. I wish she had stopped to talk to reporters but I read that she was pretty upset with the reception her Vera Wang dress got at the Golden Globes.

I just checked out your blog. Love it! You are one super stylish chick!

DO NOT like mesh dangling from coat. It looks crazy.
I liked Emmy's dress but is it see-through?

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 26, 2015 at 11:23 pm

Oh my gosh! You're right, it looks see through in this photo. It did not look see through on TV. As I mentioned in my reply to Liana, her dress lit up into a thousand sparkles when she was onstage. It was amazing.

Don't like it much, she looks cool though, standing there. But let's get back to our discussion from your last awards post about Stacy London's new show. Did you watch it? My husband DVRd 2 episodes for me. I liked it ok, like a mini WNTW. Missed Clinton of course, and the "toss out your closet" segment. I am terrible about getting rid of clothes and keep and wear things that Stacy would absolutely scream about. Like my beloved comfy faded old black cotton overalls, that I am wearing as we speak…. are you two screaming too? 🙂

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 26, 2015 at 11:36 pm

      Hi Vik!

Yes! I watched both episodes and had mixed reactions. I really like Stacy London and was happy to see her as her regular old self on TV. Like you, I missed Clinton. A lot. He was such a great TV partner for Stacy.

I thought they pandered too much to the reality TV crowd that wants crazy over the top. I don't want that. I want to see a more average person struggling with clothing and body issues that I and my friends and family struggle with. One of the things I loved about the first couple of years of WNTW (and the whole BBC series) was that they spent a lot of time in the stores trying stuff on and talking extensively about what works and what doesn't and why. I found that so fascinating and so helpful. They really abbreviated that part in the later WNTW episodes and I found that frustrating. And as you saw, they did the same with Stacy's new show.
Sigh… I was not going to review the show since I was so disappointed by it but maybe I will now…
Your black overalls sound divine. I myself am at this moment wearing a hoodie and old jeans. Hmmm… maybe we should both give Stacy a call. 😉

I think you should def review it…I didn't even know it was on 🙁 I'm a netflix girl.

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 29, 2015 at 8:24 pm

It's on Friday nights on TLC. I will watch again this Friday and get a review out. It's so funny. Freddy told me to review the show but I thought – oh I don't have anything to say about it. But it looks like I do. lol

  • Reply Vik January 27, 2015 at 12:09 am

Yes! Review the show! In WNTW, I liked Carmindy but I admit I don't miss the makeup segment, usually fast forwarded through that, til the actual makeup reveal. And then for this new show, I was like…so did the women only get the one outfit ? Yes the reality TV aspect..I did not like all the comments from the passerbys, especially since it seemed so staged. I really like Stacy, I am scared of her though, because this is not the only pair of overalls in the house. And ..cover Marcy's eyes…there may or may not be a few Crocs around here.

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 27, 2015 at 5:55 am

I was horrified by those comments. The women already felt bad about themselves there was no need for that. That was a reality TV trick I really dislike.

      crocs. my eyes are covered.=^..^=

Hmmmm. What to say? What to say?

I like Tatiana's gown. Not sure of Emma's. Okay, I am sure of my opinion about it, but don't want to say it. Although she did put down "Game of Thrones." Still two wrongs don't make a right… Or a goo… Nope. Can't do it. ; )

I'm not sure how I feel about Emma Stone's dress either. I feel like she wears it well, but that doesn't make me like the dress itself. It feels like an 80s miniskirt suit with a train sewn on. Like 80s Lamborghini meets Cinderella ball gown, but goth? I don't though. The pieces just don't fit together for me. But still, I'm drawn to it.

I'm as unpredictable as you and also love Emmy Rossum's sparkly disco ball dress. So elegant! So flashy! So Gatsby!

      Gatsby! That's it!

I love your description of an 80's Lamborghini combined with a Cinderella dress! Why are we so drawn to it though? It's a mystery…

Emma's dress is sadly a miss. I think it would have looked elegant if the skirt was solid and not see through. Like a suit as ball gown look with an elegant necklace.
I really like Emmy Rossum's sparkly dress too. But then again, I love sparkles and glitter.
    I love your reviews,
    Stacey

Yay! I will blog about the Oscars too. I can't wait for that. I hope those actresses go crazy! More sparkles and glitter!
