No One Does Flares Better Than Those ’70’s Girls!

Musical group Three Degrees in bells

Cynthia:  Hey Marcy! I thought I’d do a little Throwback Thursday action here on the blog today.

Marcy:  Oh. Too bad. I had a hairball yesterday.

Cynthia:  Ugh. Stop confusing Throwback with Throw Up.

Marcy:  Same difference. So what’ve you got?

Cynthia: Vintage photos of women in the 1970’s rocking bell bottoms and flares.

Farrah Fawcett in flares in the 1970’s

Cynthia:  As I’ve mentioned before, bells are back with a vengeance and –

Marcy (interrupting loudly):  You’ve more than mentioned it! You’re bordering on obsessed!

Cynthia (ignoring her):  And, even though everyone is looking so fabulous in their flares in 2015, these chicks from the 1970’s look even more fabulous.

Jane Birkin in 1970

Cynthia:  I think because there is such a lack of self consciousness compared to now. All I see in these vintage photos is fun and a certain glee. A “woo hoo! look at me in my groovy clothes!”

1970’s bell bottom jeans

Cynthia:  They’re effortless and carefree and not worried about how they’ll look on social media sites. I love it! These photos make me smile!

Marcy starts gagging.

Cynthia:  Oh stop it, Marcy. Sometimes you are just no fun.

Marcy stops gagging.

Marcy:  Oh, but this is fun!

Good job, Cynthia. Your unrelenting advocacy for bell bottoms has brought them back. You are a trendsetter.
They do make a nice change after years of skinny but now I'll have to go shopping.

I love flares and bellbottoms. I'm so happy they're coming back into style. I used to rock my l.e.i. flares with everything from floral embroidery, to sequins, to glitter, to laces up the side. I think this iteration of flare wearing will be slightly more subdued, but I'm just as pumped! Peace out, skinny jeans! I'm reuniting with my preferred denim silhouette!
