Live Blogging The 2015 Golden Globes Red Carpet

2:59 pm

Cynthia:  Here we go, Marcy. This is our first ever live blogging post. Can we handle it?

Marcy:  I don’t know.  How’s it going to work?

Cynthia:  We’ll flip between E! and NBC and comment when we feel strongly about a look. Every 10 or 15  minutes or so. How does that sound?

Marcy:  Fine by me. Let’s start with you.

Cynthia:  Me?! What’s wrong with what I’m wearing?

Marcy: A Texas Tuxedo, Cindy? To live blog the Golden Globes?

Cynthia:  But denim on denim is on trend.

Marcy:  On a twenty-something or a Jcrew model maybe.

Cynthia:  That’s not true! Every one who is any one wears denim on denim lately.

Marcy:  Fine. I just expected you to not look like you belonged at a honky tonk hoedown as we critiqued Chanel and Dior.

Cynthia:  Hey hey! One minute to until the Red Carpet starts! Here we go!!!

3:10 pm

Rosamund Pike

Cynthia:  Ahhhh… it doesn’t fit!!!

Marcy:  Guiliana loves it but I don’t believe her.  I’m sure she wants to hike up the straps for her. Also, Rosamund needs to stand up straight.

Cynthia:  Her hair and makeup are beautiful. Her dress is Vera Wang. You’re right, Marcy. She needs to stand up straight and how Vera let her on the red carpet with a too big dress is criminal. Ahhhh… too bad.

Marcy:  Next!

3:30 pm

Naomi Watts

Marcy:  Pretty but she looks like she stole Rene Zellweger’s Oscar look from 14 years ago.

3:40 pm

General Observations

Cynthia:  I’ve noticed a lot of boring sheaths (Amy Adams, Gina Rodriguez) and actresses looking older than they are (Lorde, Kate Mara).

Amy Adams

Marcy:  Where’s the pretty?

3:50 pm

Emily Blunt

Cynthia:  Here’s the pretty, Marcy! Emily Blunt!

Cynthia:  I’m usually not a fan of the Grecian look (also Amy Adams tonight) since I am not a fan of ruching (looks tacky and cougar-like to me) but this is so gorgeous and tasteful.

Marcy:  This is what Rosamund Pike’s dress should have looked like.

Cynthia:  Exactly.

Marcy:  Emily Blunt is so pretty. Do you think she would let me be her kitty?

4:10 pm

Dakota Johnson

Cynthia: Stop the show. Just caught a glimpse of my most fave dress of the evening.  Dakota Johnson!

Marcy:  What is with you and liking dresses that look like disco balls?! Gosh. Talk about tacky.

Cynthia:  Really? You don’t like it? I think it’s incredible.

Marcy:  I hate disco.

Cynthia: I love how the dress is part disco, part art deco. Sexy but sweet and classy. I also love her romantic hair and makeup.

Marcy:  Eh… next!

4:25 pm

Melt Down

Cynthia:  I can’t keep up! Too many dresses. Too many celebrities. I need a break.

Marcy:  There’s no time for a break.

Cynthia:  It’s going by so fast! I can’t form a thought quick enough.

Marcy:  Get it together. We can’t stop now!

Cynthia:  I just keep seeing white dresses with plunging necklines and actresses with either not enough lipstick on or dark red ’90’s lipstick.

Oh look! A commercial break. Stacy London is coming back to TLC with a new show. I wonder what happened to Clinton?

Marcy:  Focus, Cindy, focus!

Cynthia:  Aaaaaaackkkk…

4:40 pm

Jenna Tatum

Cynthia:  Now here’s a yellow dress that looks fresh and pretty and modern. Love!

Marcy:  Simple done right. She looks like Snow White.

5:55 pm

Lupita Nyong’o and Emma Stone

Cynthia:  We have time for two more so let’s look at dresses that we do like! First up – Lupita Nyong’o.

Marcy:  Lovely Lupita. I swear she can do no wrong on the red carpet. She always looks so gorgeous. I love how she always wears the prettiest colors.

Cynthia:  I know! The purple on her fluffy flower dress and lips are so spring-like and so romantic.

Marcy:  And here’s super groovy Emma Stone in a jumpsuit.

Cynthia:  Another disco look! This is so awesome!

Marcy:  She’s so cool.

So does this mean we aren’t going to be mean about all the gowns that looked like ill fitting bridesmaids dresses? Or all of those matronly dresses? Or all of the wedding dress gowns?

Cynthia:  Nah. There were so many dresses that I did like, why focus on the negative?

Marcy:  Hmpf. I’m going to call the Fashion Police and see if Kathy Griffin will hire me.

*Marcy and I would love to know which was your favorite look! There were so many we could only get to a handful of them onto the blog.

Our favorites are a toss up between Dakota Johnson and Emma Stone. I’m sure we’ll see even more gowns as the show airs.

Thanks for joining us! This was super fun!

Okay, even in the 80s I was horrified by denim on denim. I was not aware that it's back. Yikes! Can't wait for more of Marcy's comments 🙂

Rosamund and Vera are usually flawless – but what is this is?!

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 12, 2015 at 1:15 am

I know! For some reason it just made me sad.

  • Reply Anonymous January 11, 2015 at 11:20 pm

Too much skin. Scared straps will break.

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 12, 2015 at 1:16 am

It makes me wonder if she got it fitted a week ago and her body changed in that week. I think they said she had a baby 5 weeks ago. Very daring if that's the case. I so wish it would have worked for her!

  • Reply Anonymous January 11, 2015 at 11:33 pm

Naomi Watts looks great! She chose a great look to steal!

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 12, 2015 at 1:26 am

I love the bright red lip with that color yellow. Rene did it too. and also Lena Dunham last year/

    • Reply Team Bruns January 12, 2015 at 9:49 pm

      The necklace! oh the necklace!

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 13, 2015 at 6:00 pm

Team Bruns, jI ust saw on Fashion Police that it's a snake! I didn't see a close-up before last night. How awesome! Love it even more!

  • Reply GnomeLover January 11, 2015 at 11:33 pm

So far, I like the dress from Renee Zellweger best from fourteen years ago. I like the drape and lack of bling. I am loving this!

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 12, 2015 at 1:27 am

I remember when Renee wore this. It was such a bold new look – she really stole the who red carpet that year!

  • Reply Freddy January 11, 2015 at 11:50 pm

Rumor does have it that Lorde is 35…

  • Reply Anonymous January 11, 2015 at 11:52 pm

I agree with Jenni…Renee in 2001 is the winner so far.

  • Reply Anonymous January 11, 2015 at 11:54 pm

Lorde always looks old. She's only 18!! She is friends with Taylor Swift, maybe Taylor can help her out.

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 12, 2015 at 1:28 am

Ummm.. Taylor Swift always seems to look older than her years too, though. Maybe it is a trend amongst the youg'uns.

    • Reply Anonymous January 12, 2015 at 3:45 am

That's true I hadn't thought about it that way. But Taylor always looks great and Lorde doesn't.

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 12, 2015 at 4:49 am

Ah ha. Too true. Too true.

  • Reply Anonymous January 12, 2015 at 12:28 am

I'm with Cynthia on this! I don't like it for me but she looks amazing!!!

  • Reply Anonymous January 12, 2015 at 12:30 am

I was referring to Dakota btw

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 12, 2015 at 1:29 am

Oh good – I was hoping that you agreed with that one. I wonder what the Fashion Police will say tomorrow evening. Can't wait for that.

  • Reply Freddy January 12, 2015 at 12:35 am

Go, Cindy, go! (And Marcy, too.) This is fun!

  • Reply Whimsical Preppy January 12, 2015 at 12:39 am

So far I only like Dakota Johnson's look. In fact, at first I thought it was Zooey Deschanel. I also like the Disco meets Art Deco look.
That Rosamund Pike dress is all wrong.
    The Amy Adams is pleasant.
    This was a fun idea,

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 12, 2015 at 1:25 am

I feel so bad for Rosamund!! Yes- I agree – after looking at the photo of Amy Adams – her dress wasn't as boring as I thought. It is a pretty blue. Funny how a dress will look so different in a photo than it does on TV.
Thank you so much for stopping by!

  • Reply Anonymous January 12, 2015 at 12:41 am

I'd like to see Dakota's dress in a different fabric. I love her shoes.

  • Reply Anonymous January 12, 2015 at 12:45 am

That is BEAUTIFUL! I love the pale yellow. I want this dress. My favorite so far.

  • Reply Anonymous January 12, 2015 at 12:52 am

Jenna's dress is pretty but I still think I like Naomi Watts' the best!

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 12, 2015 at 1:22 am

Ah so you are liking the stronger yellow better than the pale yellow. I do love a yellow dress.

    • Reply Anonymous January 12, 2015 at 3:47 am

yes! and it just looks sleeker!

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 12, 2015 at 4:48 am

I just looked at both dresses again and compared them. I have decided that if I were going to the awards ceremony I would pick the pale yellow that Jenna is wearing. No question. So at least if we both went to the awards show we would not be wearing the same dress.
Is it sad that I have put so much thought into going to an event I was not invited to? Don't answer that.

It's your job now as a fashion blogger!

  • Reply Anonymous January 12, 2015 at 1:09 am

Okay Lupita and Naomi are my two faves! Thanks for doing this Cindy and Marcy!! I loved reading your thoughts and expertise! 🙂

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 12, 2015 at 1:23 am

Yay! Thank you! It was so much fun but also a little frantic since it went by so fast. I couldn't even get to these comments until after it was all over. Next time I will need an intern or two. Marcy is no help since she doesn't have opposable thumbs. Or speaks English really!

  • Reply GnomeLover January 12, 2015 at 6:36 am

I had to run to the grocery store and then cook dinner so I missed the rest of the dresses. I did see Sienna Miller's and I liked it. Thank you for doing this Cynthia and Marcy! I hope you do it again for The Oscar's! And I hope the dresses will be beautiful that day!

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 12, 2015 at 8:10 pm

I was pleasantly surprised at all of the dresses that I did like. Thank you for tuning in and commenting, Jenni! I think I will do the SAG Awards and Oscars. I have to say, live blogging was much more difficult than I thought it would be. I need a few interns for the next one! lol

  • Reply Anonymous January 13, 2015 at 11:46 pm

I'm so glad you mentioned Stacy's new show, I hadn't heard, yay! The premiere episode (Jan 23) is on my calendar now…don't we miss WNTW? I'm surprised Marcy didn't get a slot as their guest kitty during those years.

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 14, 2015 at 9:29 pm

I know! I so miss WNTW! Can't wait for her new show.

i'm quite surprise too that i wan't asked to be a guest. frankly, it makes me question stacy's judgement.

  • Reply withwonderandwhimsy January 15, 2015 at 3:48 pm

No surprise here, but Jenna Tatum's lemon chiffon dream and Lupita N'yongo's violet petal confection are my favorites. Always a sucker for the ultra-feminine! They're the dresses I would most like to wear. I remember you mentioning that you might live feed the red carpet report. I'm so glad you did! I like Dakota Johnson's dress, but not for me. I think you nailed it by saying it's part disco, part Art Deco. I can definitely get behind that aesthetic! Thanks for sharing your favorites and thoughts on the runway fashion. I love this sort of thing!

ohhh.. thanks for letting me know your favorites. I can so see you in either one of those dresses. Those purple flowers would look so beautiful on you! After a few days now, my heart has settled on the jumpsuit Emma Stone wore. That's the one I would wear.
Live blogging was hectic but fun. I felt like Lucy in that episode at the candy factory though! LOL
