Forget The Oscars! The Most Stunning Fashion Was At The Independent Spirit Awards The Night Before

So much more fun and fabulous! …

Sunday evening.

Marcy and Cynthia are watching the Oscar’s Pre-Show. One after another long gown goes traipsing down the red carpet.

Marcy:  Boring.

Cynthia:  So boring.

Marcy:  Whatever.

Cynthia:  Who cares?

Marcy:  I know! Let’s look at the super fun super fab super forward fashion at the Independent Spirit Awards again!

Cynthia:  Yes!

Ruth Negga in Delpozo

Janelle Monae in Salvatore Ferragamo

Kate Beckinsale 2017 Independent Spirit Awards

Amanda Peet 2017 Independent Spirit Awards

Cynthia:  And here are a few faves from years past.

Emma Stone in Monique Lhuillier 2015 independent Spirit Awards

Michelle Trachtenberg 2011 Independent Spirit Awards

Zoe Saldana 2011 Independent Spirit Awards

Jennifer Lawrence 2013 Independent Spirit Awards

Cynthia:  I just love the fashion at the Independent Spirit Awards! It’s always so fun!

Marcy:  So fun! So daring! So cutting-edge!

Cynthia:  I think we should aim to make our Marcy Very Much movie an independent movie so we can go to this award show rather than the Oscars.

Marcy:  I’ll get my speech for Best Un-Supporting Actress ready.

=^..^=

These are great! They need to have more fun dressing for the Oscars!

I know! Everyone plays it too safe. And why do the dresses all have to be long?

    Agree on all counts.
Michelle Trachtenberg’s and Emma Stone’s outfits are giving me life.
Marcy: “un-supporting” actress award?? Bahahaha!! That is GENIUS. Yeah, that’s right, cat — I gave you a compliment — it might be the second time…

Can’t wait to see your movie. Will you get me a ticket to the awards? I’ve started shopping for a dress and I’m practicing standing with my right foot crossed over my left.

I used to be into watching the whole red carpet thing, for all the award shows. Since Joan Rivers and then Kathy Griffin stopped doing them, I stopped watching them, I realize. So it is fun to see your pics and commentary. I am so outta the loop that I didn’t even know there were Independent Spirit Awards! Speaking of outta the loop, this was the first notification I got for a new post in awhile. Looked at your website and saw I’d missed some, so fun to read them, good job. It HAS been a chillier California winter than usual, but will take that over the Santa Anas anytime! 😺

Awwww… VIK… I haven’t figured out yet what the problem is and why you aren’t getting the notices. Grrrr… I will have my web guy poke around again to see if he can find anything. Thank you so much for letting me know it is still a problem. And thank you so much for reading the older posts. Do you think they could be going in to your spam folder? I had a couple of mine land in spam recently. So weird!

Thanks for checking! My web guy looked at it this morning and still can’t find the glitch! So frustrating!!! Most of the time I love technology and other times I absolutely hate it.

OMIGOSH, Ruth Negga just KILLS IT!! She’s such a cool actress, too. Have you watched her in Preacher? I’m not 100% sold on the show (too toned-down compared to the comic!), but I love her!

Also, that Amanda Peet outfit gave me the BEST idea for how to make an outfit from stuff I already have – my ruffled black batwing sweater and that skirt I posted the other week, from the Nomadic Gardens. Yay Independent Spirit! Also, Emma Stone is just awesome, in everything she wears and does. Have you seen LaLa Land yet?! TO DIE FOR!

      I haven’t seen Preacher yet.
I cannot WAIT to see your Amanda Peet inspired outfit!!
Ha. I am one of the few who did not like La La Land. Freddy and so many of my friends were in love with it. I actually have a theory as to why people have different reactions to it and may blog about my theory. Hmmm… I wonder if it is too late to do that. I am waiting for one more friend to see the movie to get her reaction.

Oh my gosh! This is obviously the red carpet show I SHOULD have been following! I agree that the Oscar attire was pretty boring this year. Too much black, nude, and gold. Not nearly enough color, volume, or embellishment for my taste. This tiny roundup here is more thrilling than the entire Oscar red carpet. Next year I’m watching the Independent Spirit awards red carpet instead!

It really was amazing to me how fun the Independent Spirit Awards fashion was just so cool and so interesting. I think everyone is so afraid of a misstep at the Oscars that they all play it safe. Plus, they al feel the need to have long gowns. Ah well. The Spirit Awards happen the night before the Oscars. They’re held at the beach in Santa Monica.
