Marcy: Cindy, you did not do your research the other day. I found lots of cool girls wearing cat shoes. And they look fantastic.

Cynthia: Oh wow! You’re right, those girls look really cool in their cat shoes. Hmmm… this is always the way it is with fashion for me. I “hate it” at first and then I “kind of want it” and then I “have to have it.” Pleated drop-crotch pants come to mind. And oxfords. And printed denim. (starting to panic) Should I reconsider my ban on cat shoes, Marcy?
Marcy considers it for a minute.
Marcy: No. Sorry. It won’t work out after all.
Marcy: Because we forgot the common denominator here.
Marcy: All of those girls are “girls.” You… well… are not.
Cynthia: This is true. I don’t even flinch anymore when I’m called “ma’am” at the grocery store. But still, look at cute Taylor Swift! And uber cool fashionista, Alexa Chung! They look SO GREAT in their cat shoes! (gasp) I WANT TO LOOK LIKE ALEXA CHUNG IN CAT SHOES!! I could!
Marcy: You could not.
Cynthia (wide eyed, manic, determined): I could try!
Marcy, the Cat, looks at Cynthia, the Person, with a half smile and sympathetic nod that is especially reserved for those who have fallen into the abyss of Cat Ladydom.
