Awards Show Fashion Fatigue

Cynthia stares blankly at her computer. Marcy watches impatiently.

Marcy:  What are you waiting for. Write the blog post on the Oscars fashion already.

Cynthia:  I don’t know what to say.

Marcy:  Well hurry up and figure it out. Our readers have been checking in all day to hear my catty critique.

Cynthia:  So you write the post.

Marcy:  I can’t. I fell asleep two minutes after the first boring gown slogged down the Red Carpet.

Cynthia:  I fell asleep one hour into the Red Carpet it was so dull.

Marcy:  This is terrible.

Cynthia:  We’ve got awards show fashion fatigue. There are simply too many awards shows. How can anyone keep awards season fresh and exciting with so many? It’s impossible. Even the actors seemed fashion fatigued and like they had all given up and wanted to stay home in their pajamas eating chocolate chip cookies.

Marcy:  Case in point. Jared Leto in lilac.

Cynthia:  Jared Leto is wearing a lavender eggshell Easter suit. (long pause) The least he could have done was get a matching umbrella.

Marcy:  Enough said.

*Were Marcy and I so fashion fatigued that we missed some truly great gowns? Please let us know if you had any favorites so we can reconsider our catty critique.

Jared Leto's look was certainly memorable. I was sort of torn because I love pastels and saccharine style, but all I could think of was "Wedding Singer." He looked like he was going to a 1950s prom. It was just strange. My favorite dressed guy of the evening was Eddie Redmayne, and we were so pleased he won best actor. We just loved "The Theory of Everything." Even with how bittersweet the story was, every character came out of it with integrity and humility. It was a great film. Eddie wore a navy and black suit, and he looks so dapper in a slim suit.

I wasn't blown away by many of the gowns. I agree that many celebrities seemed to play it safe. You saw my favorites on Instagram, and I didn't really have any after that. I did like Lady Gaga's gown during her performance of The Sound of Music. I was impressed with that whole performance. It was a beautiful tribute to Julie Andrews and the musical. I grew up reading books about girlhood and imagination written by Julie Andrews, so I have a total soft spot for her. When she walked out on stage after the performance, I started tearing up. I'm such a softie. lol

Oh my gosh that is perfect – his suit IS from The Wedding singer. Tom & Lorenzo had a funny take on it on their blog. They kept calling him Pixie Jesus and the review was a mix of snark and admiration!
      LOVE Julie Andrews!

I have been anxiously awaiting your and Marcy's catty review! You picked two good/interesting ones here. And I agree, it is exhausting. Is this the last awards show? I hope so!

Why do you think everyone has gone so bland? I can't come up with any theories.

I think it really is because there are so many awards shows packed in a 6week time frame. By the time they got to the Oscars there just weren't many designer dresses left. Plus, they all want to look great at the Oscars so they play it safe.

Hey! I'm back in the country! You 3 kept me entertained on the road since it was easy to get email, but it was hard to leave comments on the phone. I'm so happy to hear about kitty's (hopeful) calendar appearance…I will definitely get one. 🙂 I also love Nicole's dress…how chic and unexpected? She really has great taste. 🙂 A pipe burst in my condo last week, flooding it, so I'm still trying to dig myself out of the mess. I hope to start blogging next week. Take care!

I can't wait to hear about your trip!
Pipes bursting and flooding sounds like a horrific nightmare! Yikes. And you just moved in and decorated. Ah no…

I LOVED Naomi Watts. I thought her dress was so fun and unexpected. She looked so sexy and young. I also thought Rosamund Pike looked amazing. Gorgeous. Those are the two that stood out for me.

I agree – that bandeau top gown was unexpected and fun! And I was so happy to see Rosamund Pike looking so gorgeous in a dress that fit her beautifully. That red was amazing on her.
